Ruby had been severely restricted in her walking before her knee replacement.
She was delighted to meet with the HSS liaison nurse in the hospital and to learn that her health fund would pay for rehabilitation in her own home instead of staying in the hospital ward.
Upon her return home, the in-home physio helped her with an exercise program, and she gradually increased her ability to bend her knee and her confidence in walking. Now she is planning to include some walking in her planned holiday to Perth in a few months time.
Ruby greatly appreciated the management of her care plan by the HSS coordinators especially how they worked her appointments to fit in around her other commitments when required.
Following her operation and home care, Ruby now has great movement in her knee, and is continuing her home exercises while also attending a gym regularly.
Ruby says that the best thing about her care was her physio:
“He was patient and kind. He didn’t push too much, but his encouragement got me to do it.”
