You may have heard or read about ‘Consumer Directed Care’ in recent times, but do you understand exactly what it means for you?
Up until now, you’ve had limited choice when it comes to selecting a service provider to deliver your Home Care Package. But as of Monday 27 February, you will have greater choice, control and flexibility in the way you receive home care services, and how those services are delivered.
As stated on the Australian Government website myagedcare.com.au:
“From 27 February 2017, if you have a home care package, it will be easier to change providers if you move to live in another area or you are looking for a better fit. If you choose to change service providers, your home care package funding will move to your new service provider. This applies to existing home care package recipients and to new clients.
If you are happy with the services you are getting, you don’t need to do anything.”
What this means is that you are now free to choose any approved provider rather than from a select list. The provider of your choice is then allocated funds on your behalf and they work in partnership with you to deliver services which will aide in your physical and emotional wellbeing, and to keep you independent at home for longer. You work with them to set your goals and you decide how involved you want to be in the management of your budget and service delivery.
The services provided should help to maintain your independence, keep you connected with your friends, family and community, and keep you as healthy as possible.
